Welcome to the Networks Research Laboratory (NetRL).
NetRL is part of the Computer Science Department of the University of Cyprus (UCY). It was established in the year 2002 in an effort to promote and coordinate research activities in all areas of Networks Research, including wireline and wireless, mobile and ad-hoc, MANETS and VANETS, and sensor networks.
The Founder and Director of NetRL is Dr. Andreas Pitsillides , Professor, Department of Computer Science, UCY, and the Co-Director is Dr Vasos Vasiliou , Lecturer, Department of Computer Science, UCY.

Social Electricty is launched (available here ) and in the news (TV: in ANT1 , RIK , and in Print: Cities Today , Issue 8, Dec 2012 (article), Phileleftheros, and Interview at ITU). Another success of the NetRL and Andreas Kamilaris: First prize in the 2nd Green ICT Application Challenge, organised by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).
The announcement:
'The application “SocialElectricity” has been awarded the winner of the second ITU Green ICT Application Challenge. Designed by
Andreas Kamilaris, from Cyprus, “SocialElectricity”
is a Facebook application that allows people to compare their
electricity footprint with their friends and also their
neighborhood/village/town in a country-wide scale. The application aims
to help people become aware of their electricity consumption and manage
it more rationally.
As PhD student, Andreas Kamilaris works at the Networks
Research Laboratory, which is part of the Computer Science Department of
the University of Cyprus, under the supervision of Prof. Andreas
Pitsillides.
The winner of the competition – Andreas Kamilaris – will present his application on 19 September 2012.' Link to announcement

Succesful defence of PhD
Congradulations to Pavlos Antoniou for succesfully defending his PhD Thesis on the 21st May 2012. His thesis and presentation can be found here.
The
project "Social Networking of the Smart Home", performed by Andreas
Kamilaris and Prof. Andreas Pitsillides as part of their activities on the Web of Things, has recently received the
attention of the Web community.
Numerous blogging sites and newspapers have mentioned this work including Plogg International , Product Sourcing, Benzinga, EarthTechling, and newspaper article (in greek). Recently a best paper was awarded during the ENERGY 2011 conference.
Through this work, household appliances and sensors penetrate deeply into social networking infrastructures, fully
leveraging their software mechanisms in order to enable a vision of a smart home with a social shape.
